Really anything at all to let you just breathe for 10 seconds and actually use all of that cool stuff. Hell, even a decent horde mode could've salvaged this game. I bet you could make an absolutely killer EDF game with the assets from this one. I think we're all still waiting for the chance to use it for real. People talk about how cool the voltron VS is, and sure, it seems like it'd be pretty cool, for the five minutes they let you use it each time. You barely have time to learn the controls to the VS you just jumped in before you realize that the random target you just shot or the unassuming hallway you just stepped into was a scripted trigger that forcibly yanks you out and dumps you into a cutscene leading to the next set piece. Then there's all the crazy mechs and guns and other assorted equipment that are all really cool in theory, but that the game's campaign basically never actually gives you a chance to use in any real capacity. It's absolutely incoherent from top to bottom, starting with the control scheme, which tries to cram way more functionality into a gamepad that it can reasonably support, resulting in a bunch of really awkward compromises, but still manages to find room for dedicated turn left and right buttons (?) and asks you to click and hold the stick to crouch walk. LP2 is absolutely brimming with potential, but I have no idea how anyone could in good conscience call it a great game. Hopefully when/if they eventually remove GfWL and put the game back up for sale on Steam, they let people with GfWL keys redeem them for a free copy there. I just wish I'd been able to get it through Steam instead. The menus feel a bit less cobbled together for PC, and mouse aiming actually feels, well, good now (or maybe it's just placebo? Idk).

(Also, before I forget, the game seems to only be able to install to the C: drive? Or at least that's what it did for me.)Īnd not to derail the topic much more, but I gotta say, Colonies feels muuuuuuuch nicer than vanilla LP1. Just wanted to mention all this in case anyone else might be wondering about it. The only thing was that Windows 11 didn't like the game's default resolution (it kept taking the game out of focus when I tried clicking into it), so I had to go into the ini file and manually change it to 1440p beforehand. Didn't even have to do anything about SecuROM on Windows 11, which was a relief. I installed the game without issue, redeemed my key in-game without issue, and it's been smooth sailing so far. To follow up on my earlier post about Lost Planet: Colonies: I ended up buying the game off Gamesplanet, and yeah, they provide you with a download of the game as well as the key for Games for Windows Live.
